The Dobbins family lived in Whitehaven, Cumberland. John Dobbins, born about 1807, married Ann Swainson. Their son, Taylor, left the area to settle in Durham, where Al’s Great Grandfather, Andrew, was born in 1876. Andrew’s daughter, Ethel, married John Turnbull and settled in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland.
But who was John Dobbins? We have concluded that the first family illustrated is correct, but this is mainly through circumstantial evidence. The second family seem less likely, but we will continue to research both as there may be a link between the two.
