of Brooke, Norfolk

and Lowestoft, Suffolk.

After many years of research, we have at last found possible parents and grandparents for our Isaac Colman.  We believe that he was born in Brooke, Norfolk in 1773, the son of John and Mary and the grandson of Jeremiah Colman and Mary Money.

Isaac lived his adult life in Lowestoft.  He was a bricklayer and, in 1798, he married Ann Crispe.  The couple had 8 children, all of whom survived. Isaac died in 1846; Ann in 1860.

A brief outline of their children follows:

Isaac (1798-1872) - married Hannah Clark in 1819.  They had seven children.  Most of the men of this family were twinespinners and the line has been traced through the next generation.

Jeremiah (1801-1879) - married Sarah Balls Harris in 1824. They had six children but very little is known of their descent.

Robert (1803-1874) - married Hannah. They had six children, five of whom survived.  His eldest daughter, Elizabeth Ann Weltham Colman, has descendants living in Canada.

Mary Ann (1804-1860) - married Samuel Burleigh in 1825.  Although Samuel and Mary Ann remained in Lowestoft, the majority of their children moved to Northumberland and have descendants in that area today.  This is our direct line.

Michael (1807-1889) - married Elizabeth Nobbs in 1829.  After her death in 1833, he married Mary Ann Lion. We only have knowledge of one surviving child, Elizabeth.

Thomas (1810 - ?) - found on the 1851 census, but nothing else known.

John (1812-1894) - married Mary Huggins in 1832.  They had eight children. We have traced some of their descendants within Lowestoft.

Susannah (1816 - ?) - married John Huggins in 1838.  They moved to Great Yarmouth.  We have made contact with one of her descendants in that area.

In our efforts to find our own Colman line, we have also traced a seemingly unrelated Colman family within Lowestoft.  We're happy to provide information from this tree to anyone interested.
