Frances Lumsden was reputedly born in Lowick , Northumberland around 1810, but no baptism has been found to date. She married John Ogle - one of the border marriages we have at last managed to trace.
We are searching for two Lumsden families.

We knew that John Lumsden was a mariner and, as family tradition had it, he died in Calais, France. We were more than astonished to find that the story of a monument was, in fact, true. John died on 17 January 1867 whilst attempting to rescue French sailors whose boat was sinking in gale force winds just off the coast. According to newspaper reports, the French lifeboat men were reluctant to go out, but the British sailors took their boat and sailed to the rescue. John Lumsden, mate of the brig William of Blyth was one of those killed. The French death certificate showed that John was from Dunbar, Scotland. We have yet to find his birth.
